Manhattan International Piano Concerto Competition Competition Guidelines

 

The Manhattan International Piano Concerto Competition is organized in parallel with the Manhattan International Piano Competition and follows the same age-group structure and multi-stage format. The concerto competition is designed to provide age-appropriate opportunities for pianists to develop concerto repertoire and to prepare for orchestral performance at an advanced artistic level.

 

Eligibility & Age Divisions

Age eligibility is determined as of March 15, 2026.

 

Rising Artist Division (Ages 8–12)

Applicants must be at least 8 years old and not older than 12 years old.

 

Youth Senior Division (Ages 13–17)

Applicants must be at least 13 years old and not older than 17 years old.

 

Professional Division (Ages 18–35)

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and not older than 35 years old.

 

Competition Structure

The Piano Concerto Competition consists of three stages:

1. Preliminary Round – Video Submission

2. Regional Competition – Live Performance

3. Final Round (Manhattan) – Live Performance

 

Repertoire Requirements

 

Rising Artist Division (Ages 8–12)

Preliminary Round: One movement of a piano concerto (video submission)

Regional Competition: One movement of a piano concerto 

Final Round: One complete piano concerto

 

Youth Senior Division (Ages 13–17)

Preliminary Round: One movement of a piano concerto

Regional Competition: One movement of a piano concerto

Final Round: One complete piano concerto

 

Professional Division (Ages 18–35)

Preliminary Round: One movement of a piano concerto

Regional Competition: One movement of a piano concerto

Final Round: One complete piano concerto 

 

Orchestra Performance Opportunity

One Grand Prize winner may be invited to perform with orchestra during the 2027 Manhattan PianoFest in Manhattan, 

 

General Policies

Memorization is required unless otherwise specified. The jury reserves the right not to award prizes if the artistic standard is not met. All decisions are final.
